Your 5K Youth group’s first steps

Learn the foundation

Read the official 5K explanation together. Discuss what drew you to the movement and which questions to bring to the 5K Youth team.

  • Use the official 5K explanation and teaching to guide your group’s learning.
  • Distinguish NCMN’s teaching from your group’s practical activity plan.
Find the right path for your group

Bring the 5K movement to your school, church youth group, or campus community. Start with an advisor or youth leader who can guide your group.

  • School club: ask a teacher or student activities office about a faculty advisor and the school’s club application process.
  • Church youth group: talk with your youth pastor or leader about bringing 5K into your group’s gatherings and service activities.
  • Campus community: connect with a campus ministry leader or student organization advisor about meetings and local service. For a recognized campus club, check the college’s registration process.
  • Confirm your school’s, church’s, or host organization’s requirements before inviting others or planning activities.
Build a small student team

Invite friends who can help carry the group forward. Choose a meeting coordinator, a partner contact, and someone to keep shared notes.

  • Agree on a meeting rhythm that works with schoolwork.
  • Make space for new members and future student leaders.
  • Ask the 5K Youth team how to connect your group with the broader 5K movement.
Listen to a local partner

Reach out through your advisor or youth leader to a local church or community organization. Ask about needs, volunteer opportunities, and how students can help responsibly.

  • Use NCMN’s original 5km focus to frame the conversation; confirm the appropriate local starting point with the 5K Youth team.
  • Plan student service with an experienced adult or partner.
  • Medical activities require qualified professionals; students can help with support tasks agreed with the partner.
Plan one first activity

Choose one manageable activity with the partner and your advisor or youth leader. A partner might request help sorting donated supplies or preparing learning materials.

  • Confirm the date, roles, materials, and any school, church, or guardian permissions that apply.
  • Agree on how volunteers will arrive and who will supervise.
  • Ask before taking or sharing photos of anyone.

These are suggested student planning steps, not a replacement for NCMN training.

Reflect and keep it going

After your activity, meet to reflect on what you learned. Ask the partner what was useful and how to help next.

  • Record the next action and who will follow through.
  • Bring questions to 5K Youth’s online gatherings.
  • Plan a handover when student leaders move on so the group can continue.

This is a 5K Youth planning guide. It does not replace NCMN’s official content, training, or the requirements of your school, church, or host organization.
